The 49ers are adding to a pass rush decimated by injuries, with four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon set to provide a veteran presence on the defensive front.
Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Judon is signing with the 49ers’ practice squad.
He will reunite with San Francisco’s defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, whom Judon played under during Morris’ time as the Atlanta Falcons head coach.
Judon had 5.5 sacks in his only season with the Falcons in 2024. He played 13 games with the Miami Dolphins last year before
being waived last December. Judon then played one game for the Buffalo Bills after signing with their practice squad.
The 34-year-old made four consecutive Pro Bowls between 2019 and 2022, recording double-digit sacks for the Patriots in 2021 (12.5) and 2022 (15.5) after signing with New England following five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
Those peak years may be behind Judon, but he is confident he can make a difference for a 49ers team lacking depth on the defensive line amid their plethora of injuries.
Judon said in an interview with All32’s Arabia Tillery prior to Fowler’s report that he was set to sign with the 49ers.
“With all of the injuries piling up over there I think I can just come in and help until some of those guys get back,” Judon said.
