The Los Angeles Rams could be without their top offensive weapon tonight when they host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Puka Nacua is officially questionable, but after missing the final two practices of the week, his status appears to be trending in the wrong direction.
Nacua is dealing
with soreness in his groin that Sean McVay said is separate from the issue that caused him to miss time during training camp.
That could put a much bigger spotlight on Davante Adams.
Adams had a quiet Rams debut in Week 1, catching just three passes for 26 yards on six targets in the 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. With Nacua potentially sidelined, however, Adams could be in line for a significantly larger role in Matthew Stafford’s passing attack.
The matchup could provide Adams with an opportunity to rediscover some of his old form. New York’s secondary enters the game dealing with injuries, including cornerback Paulson Adebo being placed on injured reserve and Deonte Banks listed as questionable.
The Rams need Adams to take advantage.
Nacua’s absence would remove one of Stafford’s most reliable targets, making Adams’ ability to win one-on-one matchups even more important. After an underwhelming offensive performance in Week 1, Los Angeles needs its veteran WR1 to look like the dynamic playmaker the team expected when it brought him to Los Angeles.
If Nacua can’t go, tonight could be Adams’ opportunity to remind everyone exactly what he can still do.
