Player Overview
Savannah, Georgia
native Ted Hurst was a two-sport athlete with First Team All-Region honors at Sol C. Johnson High School. However, with limited collegiate offers, Hurst started out at Division II Valdosta State, where he spent two seasons catching 60 passes for over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns across the 2022 and 2023 campaigns. Hurst transferred to Division I Georgia State for the 2024 season and immediately became the Panthers’ go-to target. In his first year, he produced 56 receptions for 961 yards and a program single-season record 9 touchdowns. He earned Second Team All-Sun Belt honors.
As a senior in 2025, Hurst crossed 1,000 receiving yards for the first time with 71 catches for 1,004 yards and six touchdowns. He collected First Team All-Sun Belt recognition. By the end of his career, Hurst sat fourth in program history in receiving yards (1,965), touchdowns (15), and 100-yard games (8). He received an invitation to the Senior Bowl.
Ted Hurst is a big receiver with good speed, tracking ability, and contested catch radius. He has good bend and flexibility that allows him to sell his routes. Hurst is also capable of playing any WR position but scouts believe his best fit is at Z. While Ted is big, he is often caught not playing as such. Hurst has struggled against physical defenders and press coverage. After the catch, Hurst struggles breaking tackles or eluding defenders. This could be due to his leaner frame. There are concerns with how well Hurst can produce in the pros given the level of competition in Division II and in the Sun Belt. In spite of his shortcomings, scouts believe Hurst has the tools to be a productive receiver in the NFL. He is seen as a Day 2-3 option in the upcoming draft.

How He Fits on the Commanders
Washington’s wide receiver room lacks size, versatility, and upside. With Terry in his age-30 seasons, the Commanders need to surround Jayden Daniels with an array of young receivers to grow with. Of the Day 2 options, Hurst has the size, upside, route running, and versatility a quarterback and offensive coordinator will love. If Hurst can fight off physical corners, press coverage, and through tackles, the skies the limit for what he can be for Washington. Hurst can compete to be the WR2/WR3 in training camp with a larger role in the future.
