After Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Brian Schottenheimer faced criticism for controversial calls in the last 28 seconds of the game.
From a strange third-down throwaway pass in scoring position to a kickoff out of the endzone that left the defense exposed and set up the Ravens’ win, Schottenheimer addressed it all during his Tuesday press conference.

Credit to the Dallas Cowboys head coach for not shying away from the criticism.
“I didn’t do very good in the last 28 seconds,” Schottenheimer
said. “I think when you talk about finishing the game, which I really think you look at our two games that we’ve lost, we haven’t finished. And that was a big part of this one…”
“My dad had a rule: One play at a time. Because it happened to him. He made a decision on a play, it didn’t go good, he was pissed off about it, and it affected another decision. And I think that’s kind of what happened to me. So, I’ll take accountability for it. It’s football and life. It’s what happens. But I hurt our chance to win that game. I’ll be better, I’m better than that. I’m better than I performed in the last 28 seconds.”

The Cowboys will take the field against the Houston Texans without a few more defensive starters due to injury.
Their narrow loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Rio also came with additional injuries to the group, highlighted by Jonathan Bullard, Jalen Thompson and Shavon Revel.
This all comes only one week after losing Cobie Durant and being forced to place P.J. Locke on injured reserve, and even that came just seven days after seeing Malik Hooker and DeMarvion Overshown go down in the season opener with a fractured forearm and hamstring injury, respectively.

With injuries mounting in the secondary, Dallas added a few free agents.
Through three weeks, the Cowboys only have two of the five starters they had on opening day left in their secondary: cornerback DaRon Bland and first-round defensive back Caleb Downs.
The Cowboys are expected to add two defensive backs in the wake of those injuries, people familiar with the situation told The Dallas Morning News: cornerback Alex Austin and former Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas.

Despite the 1-2 start, Jerry Jones still feels confident the Cowboys could make a move to improve their team in the here and now.
“I’d just say we’re right on top of it,” Jones said. “We’re very aware of the moving parts out here, we should be. And communication is a big part of that. It’s a big part of that. Communication at all levels, at my level, at Stephen’s level, and the scout’s level. We all have contacts, and this is a time when you really can have discussions that could be productive. The answer to your question is yes, there’s conversations going on.”
