It has been a minute since Bayern Munich won a European trophy.
The glorious run to Lisbon in 2020 saw Bayern win the UEFA Champions League with a 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain. That CL run was perhaps among the best any team in Europe has accomplished in recent history, with emphatic wins against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, FC Barcelona and Lyon.
However, right afterward, in 2021, an injury crisis led to Bayern drawing 3-3 to PSG in the quarterfinals, as the latter qualified on
away goals. In 2022, it was yet another quarterfinal exit, after a 2-1 loss against Villareal. Then came the shambolic quarterfinal loss to Manchester City in 2023, and the 2024 semi-final loss against Real Madrid. Lastly, Bayern lost to the runners up Inter Milan in 2025, in the quarterfinal yet again.
The opinions on Bayern’s capacity to make this year their European comeback are polarized — the team showed much promise in pre-season, the Supercup, and the Bundesliga opener, but the DFB Pokal first round game against Wehen Wiesbaden has raised questions of the team’s capacity.
These are the four pots for tonight’s draw:
Even with the group stage draw, it may be too early to decide who will go how far, but let’s discuss in the comments!
