Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong are still yet to reach an agreement over a new contract after fresh talks between both parties were held recently.
The Catalans had been hoping to renew Frenkie de Jong’s contract before the start of the 2025-26 season but that simply hasn’t happened and he’s now into the final 12 months of his exisiting deal.
Mundo Deportivo report that fresh discussions have since taken place but there’s still no agreement as yet.
De Jong changed agent over the summer, which seemed to
hold things up, but he has said he wants to continue his career at Barca and is confident a solution can be found.
Barcelona also want to keep hold of De Jong but have informed the Dutchman he will have to reduce his salary to stay on in Catalunya.
The key now is to try and find a way forwards. Barcelona president Joan Laporta had been keen to avoid De Jong going into the last year of his deal without an agreement but hasn’t been able to prevent that very scenario from happening.
Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen are also in the same boat, but De Jong is the clear priority right now.
