It seemed pretty clear reports that Will “Powerhouse” Hobbs’ AEW run was over were correct when he took the pin in The Opps’ Trios title loss this past Saturday (Jan. 17) on Collision and quickly disappeared from the post-match scene as his profile was being removed from AllEliteWrestling dot com. Word was Hobbs is WWE-bound, and that the TKO-owned brand had big plans for him.
Hobbs didn’t immediately hop on a jet after the taping to head to the UK for a Raw or SmackDown debut. But according to sources
of Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, he has already signed with WWE. So in theory he could show up on any show from here on out… including NXT tonight (Jan. 20), this weekend’s SmackDown or Saturday Night’s Main Event, or perhaps more likely, next Saturday’s Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia.
Sapp noted that Hobbs is expected to be in Riyadh for Royal Rumble weekend, but couldn’t confirm that or any specific plans for the former TNT champion.
But we do have another sign that his five-year AEW run is over, and that the 34-year-old from Northern California’s WWE run is about to begin.
