Through three days of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the theme for Arizona has been close but not quite.
Wildcats sprinter Mason Lawyer gave the Wildcats their only points of the meet to date with a seventh place finish in the 100m dash final on Friday evening. Lawyer ran a time of 10.04, more than a tenth of a second off his season-best mark of 9.93.
Later in the evening, Lawyer took last in the 200m dash final, placing ninth with a time of 20.34. Lawyer earned First-Team All-American
honors for the 100m dash and Second-Team for the 200m dash.
Sam Hala’Ufla placed 16th in the shot put with a personal best throw of 192-4 (58.62m), earning Second-Team honors.
Antone Smith took 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 15.99m, well off his personal best of 16.94m. Smith earned Second-Team honors.
On Thursday, Erin Tack placed 16th in the javelin with a top throw of 49.87m to grab Second-Team honors. Also on Thursday, Sydnie Vanek finished 16th in the with a mark of 6.31m to earn Second-Team honors.
With one day remaining, the attention fully turns towards the Arizona women. Hollan Powers sits in second place in the heptathlon through four events with three to go. Powers finished first in the 100m hurdles on Friday.
Three Wildcats will compete in the high jump: Paris Mikinski, Emma Gates and Kya Crook. All three are tied for sixth in the nation with personal bests of 1.87m.
