Pep Guardiola might be on the way out at Manchester City, but the Premier League giants reportedly will not be able to swing for Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany. At least not this summer.
This from Daily Telegraph Football News Correspondent Matt Law, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Vincent Kompany is heavily involved in Bayern’s summer transfer plans. Sources who work closely with the club do not expect him to leave even if the Manchester City post becomes available at the end of the season, amid
growing belief this will be Pep Guardiola’s final season in charge of City [@Matt_Law_DT]
This is, of course, excellent news. A perspective from the English media should reflect the hopes there over a Kompany move as well, so — fingers crossed — this should mean no summer surprise. If Pep does move on and City snags its next coach this season, perhaps they’ll be off the market for a few more years…or perhaps he’ll be sacked by November.
Football, as we know, does move in cycles. But Kompany is only in year two at Bayern and it would be a real shame not to see this one out. Bayern is roaring this season but has also seen its moments of stumbles, and is far from the finished product. If Kompany keeps this up though, there is no reason he can’t have one of the all-time great tenures in Bavaria — and that is really saying something.
So please stay, Vinny.
