Nebraska’s recruiting heater rolled on Wednesday as the Huskers landed a commitment from 4 star defensive lineman Nehemiah Ombati (6-foot-2, 275 pounds) out of Shakopee, Minnesota.
Ombati is ranked as the No. 2 player in Minnesota for the 2027 cycle and gives Nebraska another much-needed piece in the trenches. His commitment brings Nebraska’s 2027 class to 16 total pledges, a group currently ranked 8th in the Big Ten and 17th nationally.\
Filling a Position of Need
Much of the recent recruiting buzz in Lincoln has centered around offensive line coach Geep Wade and his impressive work on the trail. Nebraska has landed four offensive line commitments in the class, helping build what could become a dominant future unit.
The defensive line, however, had started to look a little thin.
That concern has quickly eased with the additions of Errol Demontagnac and now Ombati. Two interior defensive linemen joining the class gives Nebraska a much stronger foundation up front and should allow Husker fans to breathe a little easier about the future of the defensive trenches.
Building the Interior
Both Demontagnac and Ombati are intriguing prospects because of the physical tools they bring to the table. Like many young defensive linemen, they’ll need time to discover the ideal balance between size, strength, speed, and agility as they continue to mature physically.
What stands out on film is their ability to be disruptive on the interior. Nebraska appears committed to building from the inside out, a philosophy that has become a hallmark of Matt Rhule’s roster construction. Dominating the line of scrimmage remains the quickest path to competing in the Big Ten, and the Huskers are clearly prioritizing players who can clog running lanes and create havoc in the backfield.
Projecting high school linemen is never an exact science, and development will ultimately determine their ceiling. Still, on paper, Ombati and Demontagnac look like solid additions who address a critical need and help strengthen the future of Nebraska’s defensive front.
The recruiting momentum continues to build in Lincoln, and the Huskers don’t appear ready to slow down anytime soon.
GBR.
