Barcelona have confirmed that Oriol Romeu has left the club after an agreement was reached to cancel his contract which still had a year left to run.
Romeu returned to the club for a second spell in 2023 but spent last season out on loan with Girona before returning at the end of the season.
Barcelona weren’t able to find a deal for him during the summer transfer window but have now agreed to part company with the 33-year-old.
Here’s the club’s official statement:
“FC Barcelona and first-team player
Oriol Romeu have reached an agreement to terminate their contract within the summer market deadline.
“Barça thanks Oriol Romeu for his professionalism, commitment and dedication, and wishes him good luck for the future.”
It’s not clear yet what Romeu plans to do but he is able to move as a free agent at least.
Thank you and good luck for the future, Oriol Romeu!
