Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund came at a potentially significant cost, with three attacking players picking up injuries during Saturday’s encounter. Assistant coach Aaron Danks provided some additional details after the match, although there is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding the extent of the problems.
Danks confirmed that Ismael Saibari suffered an ankle injury, while Serge Gnabry appears to have sustained a muscular problem. Michael Olise also experienced discomfort
toward the end of the match, but the coaching staff had not yet received a definitive assessment of his condition.
“Saibari was the ankle. Gnabry was a muscle injury and I’m unsure with Michael towards the end as well. The physio staff will play a really important role now in helping all the players recover,” Danks said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Danks subsequently offered a slightly more concerning assessment of Saibari’s situation, suggesting that the ankle injury could be particularly serious.
“Saibari’s ankle looks quite a serious injury. Serge Gnabry looks muscular, but I’m waiting to find out more. The same with Olise, I haven’t had feedback on that yet,” said Danks.
The timing is far from ideal for Bayern, who face Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday. With Luis Díaz already sidelined and Jamal Musiala still working toward his return, losing additional attacking options would represent another significant headache.
For now, Bayern will have to wait for further examinations before determining the availability of all three players. The medical staff certainly have their work cut out.
