Tuesday marks Penta’s first anniversary in WWE. However, it doesn’t sound like he plans to do much celebrating. Looking back on 2025, the luchador admitted the results didn’t always match his effort.
“It’s
been one year since I arrived in WWE. I know I haven’t achieved the best results, but I keep fighting every single day,” said Penta on WWE’s social media.
While his passion, optimism, and humility had all the traits of a classic babyface promo, Penta may have been overly critical of himself. According to Cagematch.net, he won 35 of his 63 matches in 2025 — a 56% win rate.
In his highly anticipated debut, Penta defeated Chad Gable on the Jan. 13 edition of Raw. On the road to last year’s WrestleMania, he beat Dominik Mysterio, who now claims to be the king of the luchadores, also on Raw. In a rare SmackDown appearance, he picked up a win over Finn Bálor in the “Last Time is Now Tournament.”
But Penta struggled in championship matches. He was 0-5 in high-profile bids for the Intercontinental Championship. On the live event circuit, Penta had several attempts to wrest the World Heavyweight Championship from Gunther, but came up short.
That, however, is behind him. Looking ahead, Penta offered a firm promise to his fans.
“I don’t know when. I don’t know how. But there’s one thing I can promise. Penta will be champion in WWE,” said Penta.
The former Impact and Lucha Underground Champion kicked off his 2026 campaign Monday on Raw, teaming with Dragon Lee against The Vision’s Bronson Reed and Austin Theory. The bout was called off after outside interference by Bron Breakker.
Though a winner wasn’t officially declared, it is presumed Penta and Lee won by disqualification.
