The Twins’ ace will face off against 28-year-old Stephen Kolek, who was acquired at the trade deadline in the deal that sent catcher Freddy Fermin to the Padres. Kolek was primarily a reliever for the past four seasons, but was stretched out to start
when the Padres were facing a slew of injuries to their starters. He’s acquitted himself well since moving back to the rotation with a 3.99 ERA/4.15 FIP. He’s making just his second start for the Royals, replacing injured All-Star Seth Lugo.
