Barcelona have been granted permission to re-open part of the Gol Nord stand and expand the capacity of Camp Nou to up to 62,000 supporters.
The club have been hoping to expand capacity from 45,000 supporters for a little while now and have finally received approval from Barcelona City Council for license 1C.
The permit allows the club to reopen the first and second tiers of the North Stand at Camp Nou in time for Saturday’s La Liga match on Sunday against Sevilla.
The news is a huge boost for the club
and the players ahead of the business end of the season, with some big home games to come, not least the Champions League return against Newcastle next week.
Having an expanded capacity will obviously mean another welcome financial boost to the club and should also make for a better atmosphere at home games, with more fans in attendance to roar on their team.
There’s still some way to go until the stadium will be able to operate at full capacity of 105,000 fans, but this is definitely another step in the right direction.
