Word broke yesterday afternoon that the first-ever WWE NXT Women’s champion was in Orlando, Florida. Since the current NXT Women’s champion was scheduled to defend her title last night against a MYSTERY OPPONENT it was easy to connect the dots, and we did in fact get Paige vs. Kelani Jordan for the belt on Nov. 4’s loaded episode of NXT.
Appearing on WWE Radio’s Busted Open after Wednesday’s big NXT, Paige revealed that she was only tapped for the spot on Monday during the Raw/SmackDown double-taping
in Brooklyn:
“I got called last minute. It wasn’t actually supposed to be me. Triple H pulled me aside in Brooklyn at the double taping and said, ‘Do you mind going down to NXT?’ I was like, ‘Oh shit. Yeah, definitely.’
“It didn’t give me much time to prepare. Maybe if I prepared a little bit more, I would’ve won. It is what it is. I know what to do next time if I get a little bit of time.”
Paige doesn’t mention who it was “supposed to be” losing to Jordan at the Performance Center last night, but the rumor mill will probably provide a name or two soon. In the meantime, get caught up on the action from an eventful evening in Orlando in our NXT recap and review here — and give us your guesses below.
