The Alvin Kamara saga this offseason has been one of the most talked about in the New Orleans Saints community. Given how much the RB has given to the team and his legacy in New Orleans, Kamara is a clear fan favorite for many. But last season was not good enough from the star RB; he has a very high cap hit for RBs, and the Saints just brought in Travis Etienne to be RB1. Combining all of these factors creates a path without Kamara on the roster, but it has been such an interesting process filled
with opposing views, non-answers, and zero decisions.
The one clear thing from this saga has been Kamara’s view on next season. He has made it clear that playing for the Saints next season is his plan, and recently, Kamara’s agents backed up those claims, per Mike Garafolo.
In the video, Garafolo simply revealed that Kamara’s agent, Brad Cicala, said Kamara plans to play in New Orleans next season. It’s great to hear about the player and his representatives’ continued commitment, but the issue is that it’s not really his decision. The Saints can trade or release Kamara now that we are past June 1st. A trade would be the more likely outcome, but Kamara may just want to retire at that point. That may be a very unlikely choice with how motivated Kamara sounds. Kamara could accept a pay cut, which the Saints would probably prefer to keep him on the roster.
No matter what happens, reaching a conclusion sooner rather than later is best, even if that’s some type of commitment from Kellen Moore.
