For the first time, the Heisman is a Hoosier.
Fernando Mendoza, after leading No. 1 Indiana to a 12-0 finish in the regular season and a 13-10 win in the Big Ten Football Championship game, is the winner
of the 2025 Heisman Trophy.
After transferring from Cal this past offseason to join his younger brother Alberto in Bloomington, Mendoza has learned under Curt Cignetti and guided the Hoosiers while passing for 2,980 yards with 33 touchdowns through the air and just six interceptions, adding in 240 yards and six scores on the ground.
He’s Indiana’s first Heisman winner in program history after becoming just the second finalist following Anthony Thompson’s 1989 bid that fell just short. The trophy will join the Amos Alonzo Stagg Championship Trophy in Bloomington.
