The Oregon Ducks were back in B1G action this afternoon as they made there way to Ann Arbor Michigan to take on the Wolverines. After dropping a mid-week game against Portland the Ducks looked to get back into the win column in game 1 of there conference weekend series.
This was the lineup coach Waz went with in game 1, highlighted by Will Sanford on the mound who has given the Ducks nothing but quality
starts this season.
After a scoreless first inning Michigan would draw first blood with a solo home run in the 2nd to go up 1-0. In the 3rd things really unraveled for Sanford in a way they haven’t all year, as Michigan was able to put up 5 more runs to make it 6-0 .
With it 6-0 after 3 Oregon turned to seldom used middle reliever Josh Hollis to eat some innings to save the bullpen for the rest of the weekend. In the 4th he would load the bases with no one out and it looked like things were going to get even more out of hand. Luckily he was able to induce a ground ball double play to get two outs but concede a run and it was now 7-0 Wolverines.
Not helping matters was Oregon’s ice cold lineup still was unable to get anything going. After only scoring 8 runs in 3 games against UC Santa Barbra and then being shut out by Portland the Bats continued to do nothing on Thursday. As a team Oregon managed to get 3 hits in the entire 7 inning game resulting in no runs.
Michigan would tack on 3 more runs in the 6th and that would do it for the game as the Mercy rule went into affect once Oregon was shut-out in the 7th.
The end result. 10-0 Michigan. Yikes
Oregon will look to bounce back tomorrow at 1PM to even the series
