Are Adams Peters’ Washington Commanders better than they were a year ago?
Your knee-jerk reaction is the right one: Well, duh.
So is your second thought: Can’t be much worse.
It’s hard to love much of what happened during a 5-12 campaign where quarterback Jayden Daniels got hurt early and often and an old and slow defense looked, well, old and slow.
Let’s add nuance to the conversation.
The Commanders are better. By how much? As in, NFC East title contender, good? A .500 ball club? A few games better, but still battling for relevance?
Our Mark Tyler believes the Commanders are significantly better after an active free agency period brought Odafe Oweh, Leo Chenal, Nick Cross and a whole lot more to Washington in an effort to get younger and faster. General manager Adam Peters followed that stretch with a productive NFL draft that imported linebacker Sonny Styles, receiver Antonio Williams and value in the lower rounds.
To quote him (he’ll just love this), “Washington may have done the most in the NFL this offseason to improve their overall talent.”
And that comes from a former college player and Hogs Haven columnist who said on March 5 that the Commanders had the NFC East’s least talented roster.
So, we can all agree that the Commanders are more talented than they were at this time last year (sans the veteran receiver we know is coming? Hi, Brandon!!!). At least, I think so. If you don’t, drop your contrary opinion into the comments but be ready to fight like Jon Snow against the oncoming hoard.
Now factor the opposition and last week’s Commanders schedule release into the equation. How much better are the Commanders heading into the 2026 campaign than they were last year?
