Basketball
The Oregon women recovered from a disastrous final season in the Pac-12 to finish at 20-12 (10-8) and 8th in the Big Ten conference. Though bounced in the first round of the conference tournament the team upset Vanderbilt in overtime to make it to the round of 32 in NCAA Tournament, falling to power house Duke.
On the men’s side, a typical January slump gave way to a patented late season surge to finish 25-10 (12-8) and 7th in the Big Ten. Though defeated by 7th ranked Michigan State in the second
round of the conference tournament they made it to the big dance, crushing Liberty in the first round before falling in a close game to familiar foe Arizona.
Tennis
Some of us at AtQ expected better results transitioning from a west coast conference with Bay Area and Arizona schools to the Big Ten, but the first season of competition on the court was a disappointment. The men finished 13-13 (5-8) while the women went 9-13 (2-11). Neither team made it to the post season. Time will tell if this was a one year blip or if changes to one, or both, programs may be coming in the future.
Lacrosse
Oregon lacrosse never established themselves in the upper echelon of the Pac-12 (where both UC Davis and San Diego State were affiliate members to make up the numbers), so changing to a Big Ten conference with its footprint stretching into the northeast was always going to be a challenge. The first season was rough, going 6-10 (0-8). The team will look to progress with a few conference victories this spring.
Acrobatics and Tumbling
Oregon maintained their status as the second greatest acrobatics and tumbling program in the nation. For those unfamiliar with the format of the sport, a 7-3 record may not seem elite, but all three losses were to the one dragon the Ducks have yet to slay, the Baylor Bears. There is no reason to think it won’t come down to these same two squads again in the new year.
Track and Field
Eugene isn’t called Tracktown USA for nothing. The Ducks swept the women’s and men’s Big Ten Indoor Championships. In outdoor competition the men took the title while the women finished second to fellow Pac-12 expatriate USC. Both squads had competitors at the NCAA championships, where a number of athletes had top 5 finishes. The biggest highlight was Aaliyah McCormick’s national title in the women’s 100m hurdles.
Golf
The men had a solid season, finishing 4th a the Big Ten Championships then 9 out of 13 in the Auburn Regional of NCAA competition. The women’s team continued their run as a national power house, finishing 1st at both the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional. A 3rd place (out of 30) performance at the NCAA championships took them to match play. Oregon advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Texas 3-2 before falling to Northwestern 2-3. The championship lineup was made up entirely of underclassmen, and another strong recruiting class has the women in position to make noise again in the new year.
Softball and Baseball
Both diamond teams enjoyed strong regular seasons in their new conference. Baseball ended the regular season in 1st place in the Big Ten thanks to owning the series tiebreaker over UCLA. Post season play was, by contrast, an enormous let down. A loss to Nebraska that ended their run in the Big Ten Tournament was partially explained by an odd schedule that prevented resting pitchers, but losses to Utah Valley and Cal Poly in a home regional ended the season with a whimper.
Softball, by contrast, put together a historic post-season run to make it to the College Women’s World Series. The Ducks won the outright regular season conference title, but were upset in the Big Ten Tournament by Michigan. In their regional the team came back from an early loss to advance to the super regional round by defeating Stanford back-to-back in a Sunday double header. They hosted Liberty (who had shocked #1 overall seed Texas A&M in College Station) in the Super Regional round and swept the Flames to punch their ticket to Oklahoma City. Oregon was eliminated from pool play by losses to UCLA and Oklahoma, but did pick up a win against Ole Miss.
Cross Country
The Ducks swept the Big Ten Championships, following up on the success of track season. Both teams advanced to the NCAA Championships, where the women finished 3rd and the men 5th.
Soccer
The fall season was a difficult one for an Oregon squad that needs to be built into a competitor from the ground up. A record of 3-10-5 (1-6-4) wasn’t anything to throw a parade over. That said, the Ducks finished their season off the correct way by upsetting #8 washington in Eugene. Hopefully that victory will be a harbinger of things to come next season.
Volleyball
Oregon fans are use to seeing a top-ten team take the court, but a coaching change and total roster overhaul were not great signs going into a 2025 season in the strongest conference in the nation. Though the Ducks missed the NCAA tournament, given the circumstances a 17-13 (8-12) campaign that included victories over top 25 (in one case top 10) teams was a pleasant surprise. A young core gained valuable experience, and the recent signing of veteran transfers means the new year looks optimistic. On the sand, the beach volleyball team continued to languish with minimal support and middling to poor finishes in all three competitions they attended.
Football
The Ducks followed up an undefeated Big Ten Championship season in 2024 with an 11-1 campaign in 2025, the only loss coming at home to undefeated #1 overall Indiana. The Ducks won their opening round playoff game at Autzen against James Madison and will face Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day.
Happy New Year AtQ folks, here’s to the victories yet to come! Go Ducks!!!
