Hey TOC Nation, I hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July weekend. And now it is time to get back to work. Here at TOC Headquarters, we are getting back to work with an expanded team of writers as we welcome not one, but two new members of our Spartan journalism team. These two new writers will each have a specialty here at TOC, though they will not necessarily be limited to these. Greg Patuto will be starting this week and will be our “Recruiting Correspondent”, and Darin Radatz will come on board
in August and will serve as our “Film Review Specialist”. Yes, we found someone to continue doing film breakdowns for football season!
I have asked Greg and Darin to share a little information about themselves.
Greg Patuto
I come to The Only Colors as a lifelong native of New Jersey — and do not worry Spartan fans, I am not a Rutgers fan. Instead, I got my start at SB Nation with On The Banks covering Rutgers athletics and eventually becoming the site manager. I got the chance to cover collegiate athletics in multiple ways and that continues to this day. Along with TOC, I will also be contributing to SB Nation sites covering Rutgers, Villanova basketball, Kansas, and Boston College.
I plan to bring detailed pieces on Michigan State football and basketball recruiting. When I am not covering college sports, I am likely at a high school game in New Jersey as I also work for NJ.com, which is the largest news platform in the Garden State. Outside of sports, I enjoy spending time with my one-year old son while also spending many summer days at the beach. Of course, this is to kill time until my favorite season, and the best time of the year, college football in the fall.
Darin Radatz
I grew up in a family full of Walmart Wolverines, but my next-door neighbors were lifelong Spartans with season tickets who took me to games throughout the 90s and 2000s. That’s where I fell in love with Michigan State and became the “green sheep” of the family.
I graduated from MSU in 2009 and had what I still think was the best job on campus working in the athletic kitchen beneath Spartan Stadium. Football Saturdays meant free food, the occasional free ticket, and a behind-the-scenes view of game day that I’ll never forget that occasonally involved short elevator rides with Magic.
These days, I live on a 300-acre farm in Missouri after a whimsical career building and maintaining trails all over the country.
With Pat Fitzgerald leading this new era of Spartan Football there will be plenty to discuss. I look forward to breaking it all down with you each week.
Go Green!
Please help me in welcoming Greg and Darin to our community. 27 days until we begin our football preseason coverage, and with a staff of 6, you can expect even more content to help us get through August.
