Three Keys
1) Keep Kyler Murray upright – Murray is coming back from a concussion and looked a little shaky in the short time he was on the field in the season opener. The Bucs’ pass defense has been suspect at best in their first two games, so if the offensive line can keep the Tampa pass rush away from Murray, it should give him the opportunity to make some plays down the field. Hopefully Murray’s return can give the Minnesota passing game a shot in the arm.
2) Keep the pressure on – Brian Flores has had the Vikings’ defense blitzing opposing quarterbacks at an insane rate over the first two weeks of the season, and it’s been incredibly effective. Now, he’s facing off against Baker Mayfield, who has been very good against the blitz this season. I wouldn’t expect Flores to change things up too much, but it’s imperative that the Vikings get Mayfield on the ground when they get to him, or it’s going to, potentially, make for a long afternoon for the Minnesota secondary.
3) Keep winning the turnover battle – The Vikings haven’t turned the ball over since Murray’s interception on the second offensive play of the season. They’ve won the turnover battle in each of their first two games, and in the Kevin O’Connell era, the Vikings have a winning percentage of over .900 when they’re even or better in the plus/minus ratio when it comes to turnovers. The Bucs, on the other hand, have forced just one turnover through two games and come into this one with one of the league’s worst turnover ratios at -4. If the Vikings can control the ball, they should be able to come out of this one with a victory.
