Good morning, New York Giants fans! Here are the stories you need to know as fans await to hear who will be the starting quarterback in Houston this Sunday.
The New York Giants can’t keep making this many mistakes and counting on a comeback | The Athletic
The New York Giants have trailed by double digits in four of their six games this season. That’s not a formula for success, and the Giants were burned by digging a deep hole in their 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
The Giants are a flawed team whose degree of difficulty increased when starting quarterback Jaxson Dart was lost seven
snaps into their second game with a season-ending knee injury. It was impressive that the Giants overcame an early 14-3 deficit to beat the Cardinals 36-24 in Week 4 and staged a furious comeback to climb out of a fourth-quarter 27-13 hole against the Commanders last week to force a tie. But the Giants’ surprising 3-2-1 start could be derailed if they don’t start playing cleaner football.

The six things we learned from Giants’ Week 6 loss: The running back plan didn’t make a lot of sense | New York Post
At 10-0 late in the second quarter, the Giants were not exactly dominating but they were in control of their game Sunday against the Saints. Allowing a 58-yard field goal should have meant the Giants went in at halftime ahead 10-3. That did not happen.
As it turned out — and this was totally, completely unexpected — that long-distance field goal opened the floodgates for 34 consecutive points for the Saints.
Miffed Najee Harris: Giants’ multi-back approach ‘extremely frustrating’ | USAToday.com
“Of course not,” Harris said when asked if a running back can get into a groove under those conditions. “I don’t think anybody can. This is not anything against the coaching staff. This is just that running backs, like a quarterback, get in a rhythm. It’s hard to get into a rhythm with one or two runs. The first couple runs you’ll be like: OK, how are they playing me? And then the next ones will be like: This is how you attack it. But if you’re getting a play here and you get taken out for a series, there’s nothing you can do. That’s why I’m saying I don’t know. I’ve never been through this before.”
Harris described the results as “extremely frustrating” and pointed to blocking issues, saying the Giants have often been “just one block away.”

NFL Week 6: Big takeaways, questions from Sunday’s games | ESPN.com
The Giants continue to fumble — they have at least once in every game this season. They have four lost fumbles in the past three games, including a crusher this week on a kickoff return by Charlie Jones that flipped the game at the end of the first half. The Saints scored 31 unanswered points after the fumble.

The volatility found within Jameis Winston proved too much for New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh chose to bench Winston after his second interception. Enter JJ McCarthy, who joined the team three weeks ago after a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.
McCarthy provided a spark. After the third-year quarterback threw his own interception, he then rallied the Giants to 17 unanswered points and a chance to tie the game during New York’s final possession. Grade: Winston, D-; McCarthy, B
NFL Fallout Week 6: The Giants Should Start QB J.J. McCarthy | FOX Sports
The New York Giants are not a very good football team. Their 34-27 home loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday exposed all of their flaws. They are lucky to be 3-2-1 and in first place in a terrible division. And if they want to stay there and make a real run at the playoffs, they have to give J.J. McCarthy their starting quarterback job.
He did what New York’s brass liked about him when they traded for him back in September — at a time when I wrote Winston was the best of the Giants’ terrible options to replace Dart. McCarthy reminded them of Dart. He moved around the pocket. He spun out of trouble and extended plays. And when the Giants got the ball back with just 57 seconds remaining and 71 yards to go, he kickstarted a potential game-tying drive by stepping away from the pass rush and taking off for a career-long 28-yard run.
