Jürgen Klopp is not interested in rushing Nicolò Tresoldi into making an international decision.
The Germany head coach confirmed that the young forward has yet to decide whether he wants to represent Germany or Italy, and Klopp appears determined to give him the space to make that choice without unnecessary pressure.
Speaking about Tresoldi’s situation, Klopp said that he did not want to apply pressure to the youngster.
“It’s not an easy decision to make for a young player. We don’t want to put any
pressure on him. We want to show him the possibilities,” Klopp said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Tresoldi, who was born in Italy and has German-Italian family ties, is eligible to represent both countries. The 21-year-old has already represented Germany at youth level, but his international future remains open. Klopp’s approach is understandable. Rather than attempting to force a commitment, Germany can present Tresoldi with its plans and explain what his opportunities could look like under the new coaching regime.
For Tresoldi, that leaves a significant decision ahead. Choosing a senior national team can shape an international career for years, particularly for a young player who still has plenty of development ahead of him.
For now, Klopp appears content to make Germany’s case and let Tresoldi make the final call himself.
