There have been few, if any, updates since the Eagles placed quarterback Jalen Hurts on IR as he deals with blood clots that traveled to his lungs. QB1 deserves his privacy and time to heal above all else, but the unknown surrounding how he’s doing, has been a dark cloud lingering over the city and fanbase.
Thankfully, we finally get a bit of good news, with ESPN’s Tim McManus reporting that Hurts was at the Eagles practice facility on Wednesday, and even sat in on meetings.
There had been early speculation that the quarterback would be allowed around the team, as his recovery would only limit him physically, but head coach Nick Sirianni wouldn’t comment on if Hurts had been, or planned to be, involved in the rest of the season. Earlier on Wednesday, Sirianni would only say that he’s seen Hurts and had been in constant communication with the quarterback, but wouldn’t say whether he was in the building.
“Q. Is there anything you can share with us about how QB Jalen Hurts is doing? Have you talked to him? Have you seen him, communicated with him? (Reuben Frank)
Nick Sirianni: Of course, I’ve seen him, and I have no new update on anything. But of course, I’ve talked to him and am in constant communication with him and know he’s resting and recovering. I miss him like crazy. But nothing new on that front. I know he’s resting and recovering, and we’re all still praying for him and hoping for a speedy recovery.
Q. Has he been here? (Jeff Neiburg)
Nick Sirianni: Yeah, like I said, no new information there on that.“
Players appreciate the lengths Sirianni will go to protect their privacy, and that carries more weight when talking about potentially life-threatening medical situations.
BUT, now we know that Hurts is back in the building, and McManus reports that his presence brought a morale boost to his teammates — and it did the same for Eagles fans. That he’s well enough to be around the team, and also be in meetings to help turn things around, is a welcomed update from a situation that turned serious so quickly.
