Who needs the WWE Draft? Roster movement’s more fun without that thin kayfabe justification, anyway!
Our top rumor today has to do with NXT call-ups:
Joe Hendry, Jacy Jayne & Fatal Influence, Blake Monroe, Ethan Page, Sol Ruca, and Ricky Saints were just movedfudge from WWE Developmental to the biggest stage in the pro wrestling business: WWE’s main roster. Their promotions from NXT to Raw or SmackDown come just months after Je’Von Evans, Oba Femi, and Trick Williams got the call.
And per a Bodyslam+ report, more might be on the way. Additional call-ups
are being discussed for this summer. Thus far, the only names said to be up for discussion are members of NXT’s women’s roster. The most likely candidates would seem to be current titleholders Lola Vice and Tatum Paxley, or wrestlers who’ve already been champions in NXT or TNA like Izzi Dame and Kelani Jordan, or ones whose stock is high enough they can probably skip that step altogether like Zaria and Kendal Grey.
Of course, BodySlam reminds us “this remains tentative and subject to change as plans continue to shift heading into late summer.” Or as we used to tell you all the time, take these things with a grain (or eight) of salt.
More rumors!
- Big Bill’s AEW contract is set to expire at the end of this month or early next, or at least that was the word going around backstage last month per Fightful Select’s sources. Those sources don’t know if Bill signed a new deal, but it does seem the seven-footer stopped getting booked right around when that behind-the-scenes talk started in April.
- During his interview with Swerve Strickland, media personality and podcaster Bootleg Kev said he’s “really close to” Jelly Roll, and that the country star’s publicly stated reasons for trying to take Pat McAfee out of the WrestleMania 42 main event were the same thing Jelly Roll was saying behind the scenes about his involvement in the event. Kev said Roll “was being very vocal” that he wanted to be in something “more comedic” than the WWE title match, and wasn’t going to say no but told “certain people at WWE” fans wouldn’t like it.
- Former TNA owner/president Dixie Carter turned down “multiple invitations” to be a part of Dark Side of the Ring‘s upcoming three-parter on TNA Wrestling and Jeff Jarrett, per PWInsider’s Mike Johnson.
- At sportsbooks that take prop bets on pro wrestling like betonline, the champions have opened as favorites in Intercontinental champ Penta’s defense against Ethan Page and WWE Tag champs Logan Paul & Austin Theory’s against Street Profits at next weekend’s Saturday Night’s Main Event.
- After Dragon Lee posted “2-3 weeks” on his social media, former Bodyslam reporter Cory Hayes tied it to “the word coming out of Mania” that Lee “was banged up”.
