This year’s 2026 Carolina Basketball recruiting class is about as thin as it has ever been, and that is because they only have one commit so far. That might change in the coming weeks — more on that a little
later — but it’s worth pointing out that the one recruit they do have is pretty dang good. In fact, he is All-American good.
2026 UNC commit Maximo Adams was named to the McDonald’s All-American team, which makes him the fourth player that Hubert Davis has recruited during his tenure that has participated in the event.
Adams is a 6’7, 205-lb small forward out of Chatsworth, CA. He is the sixth-best small forward in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports Composite, and he is the 21st-best overall player in the country. Adams chose UNC back in November of 2025 over schools like Kentucky, USC, Michigan State, and Kansas.
UNC has now had 86 players total play in the McDonald’s All-American game. The interesting thing is that they have a chance to add one more guy that probably should be in this event, but there is a policy that kept that from happening. Right now, Hubert Davis is in pursuit of Dylan Mingo, who is top-five player in the country. He is not a McDonald’s All-American because he was injured for too much of his senior season, so McDonald’s deemed him ineligible. It’s a questionable rule to say the least, but ultimately what matters is that he was good enough to participate as well. Why is this important if he hasn’t committed to UNC? 247Sports actually updated their Crystal Ball prediction to UNC yesterday after he was previously selected to choose Baylor.
Regardless of whether or not Mingo commits, Davis has an excellent talent in Adams that will bring a lot of talent to the wing position for UNC. What do you think of Davis making the All-American game? Let us know in the comments below.
