The biggest awards have now been handed out in baseball, and one of them just increased Tarik Skubal’s free agency value. On Wednesday, the Cy Young Awards were announced, and Tarik Skubal (of course)
won for the second year in a row, while Paul Skenes of the Pirates won for the NL.
Then on Thursday night, the MVP Awards were announced. Cal Raleigh’s home run streak made for great press and got him a lot of votes, ultimately it was Aaron Judge who once again took the AL honors, his third overall win and a back-to-back win. Tarik Skubal did collect some overall votes for AL MVP, but it was no contest that this was between Judge and Raleigh. In the NL, Shohei Ohtani won his third MVP in three years, and fourth overall. The question for Ohtani becomes: can he best the record of seven MVP awards set by Barry Bonds. Right now Ohtani is the second player in history behind Bonds to win four, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down in make history and blowing minds.

“We love Tarik, obviously. It’s pretty obvious what means to this organization. He’s a fantastic pitcher, he’s a Detroit Tiger. We’re never going to talk about our players in the context of trades, but we’re lucky to have him. He’s been a huge piece to what we’ve done.”
