Florida State’s Shenese Walker won the national championship in the women’s 60-meter, clocking a winning time of 7.08 at the Randal Tyson Track Center on Saturday:
The three-time first-team All-American breezed through the preliminaries on Friday with a blistering time of 7.07, which stands as a new conference and school record. Walker’s first round time ties the 13th-fastest time in collegiate history and fifth all-time in Division I history.
Walker became just the second Florida State athlete to win a national title in the event and the first since Tonya Carter in 2000. The Jamaican native’s victory also marks Florida State’s 24th individual national champion of all-time and the program’s first since Kimberly Williams in 2011.
Walker adds another historic moment to Florida State’s storied track and field legacy after recently being named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s MVP from a double victory in the short sprints and three consecutive 60 titles.
Florida State men’s golf opened play at the Seminole Intercollegiate on Sunday at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club:
Due to the threat of inclement weather on Monday, play went from just after sunrise to sunset and was called after 16 holes in round two. Play will resume at 4 p.m. on Monday, and the final round will be played as scheduled on Tuesday. Florida State holds the lead at 4-under.
The Seminoles started the day off strong in ideal weather conditions and finished the first round with the lead at 1-under, 287.
In round one, FSU was led by Jack Whaley and Carson Brewer, who turned in scores of 2-under 71, followed by Tyler Weaver, who was even, 72. Whaley opened the round with three birdies on the front nine, while Brewer carded three in the round.
Jack Bigham finished at 1-over, 73 ahead of Wilmer Edero at 2-over 73.
Winds began to pick up as round two began immediately after the opening round.
Weaver made a push on the front nine, carding three birdies and moved up to tie for third place whenever play was stopped. He sits at 3-under and is 4-under for the round.
Brewer picked up a pair of birdies to start his second round, moving up the leaderboard. He is tied for fourth place at 2-under and is 2-under for the round.
Edero is tied for 15th place at 1-over for the tournament, followed by Whaley at 2-over in 21st and Bigham at 3-over in 25th.
No. 18 Florida State women’s golf fell to both No. 11 Duke (3-0) and No. 22 South Carolina (3-1) on the first day of the Old Barnwell Match Play Championships:
The match play championship is a mid-season opportunity coaches and players to participate in match play with is now utilized by most conferences and the NCAA when deciding their champions during the postseason.
Florida State was especially successful in the match play format during the 2025 season when it defeated both Cal and Wake Forest to win the first ACC Championship in school history. The Seminoles then defeated Southern California before falling to Stanford in the NCAA national semifinals.
The Seminoles will face Alabama in their final match of the event on Tuesday morning.
The format of the event was shifted from to a Sunday-Tuesday format from a Monday-Tuesday schedule because of expected weather in the area predicted for Monday.
Florida State plays host to the annual Florida State Match up at the Seminole Legacy Golf Course later this week – March 20-22 – in its only home match of the season. Admission and parking are both free to support to No 18 ranked Seminoles on their home course
Florida State men’s tennis (9-9, 1-5 ACC), after falling to Clemson on Friday, won its first conference match of the season with a 4-1 defeat of Georgia Tech on Sunday:
Senior Corey Craig secured his second consecutive win in Florida State’s 4-1 loss at No. 34 Clemson Friday evening.
Craig put the Seminoles on the board with a straight-set victory at the top spot, 6-3, 6-1, to briefly tie the overall score at 1-1.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 advantage, claiming the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Henrik Bladelius and Marko Mesarovic scored a 6-2 win on court two over Justin Lyons and Mohammad Alkotop, setting up Matisse Farzam and Yannic Nittmann with a 7-6 (3) victory on court three to clinch the doubles portion. Florida State kept Clemson from a sweep as Erik Schiessl and Jan Sebesta won the battle on court one with a 7-6 (5) win against Viktor Markov and Noa Vukadin.
After Craig tied the contest at 1-1 with his victory on court one, the Tigers battled back to regain the lead, winning on court five where Mesarovic defeated Gabor Hornung, 6-4, 6-1. Clemson again extended its lead with a win on court three as Alkotop fell to Farzam, 6-4, 6-1. The clinching point came down to court six with Nittmann outlasting Lyons in a 6-4, 7-6 battle.
Florida State won the doubles point to open the day against Georgia Tech with a 1-0 lead. Court two pairing of Oren Ezerzer and Gabor Hornung broke their opponents’ service game twice to go-ahead 4-2 before serving out a 6-3 victory. Ezerzer and Hornung earned their first ACC win and third overall victory of the season as a pair.
Justin Lyons and Mohammad Alkotop then clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph over Gianluca Carlini and Elias Shorky, marking the duo’s third ACC win of the season.
Florida State took a 2-0 lead in the match after Lyons defeated Richard Biagiotti at court six by a 6-1, 6-4 score. No. 76 Erik Schiessl finished next, expanding the Seminoles’ lead to 3-0 after winning 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The remaining three matches were locked in battles, all played in third sets. The Yellow Jackets were able to get on the board at court three after Carlini beat Alkotop 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. Florida State would clinch the three-set victory match after Corey Craig won against Christophe Clement at court one by a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 score.
Next up, Florida State will head north for a doubleheader on Thursday against Boston College at noon and a non-conference match versus Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m.
No. 7 FSU beach volleyball went undefeated during the Florida Atlantic Beach Invitational, beating No. 13 FAU, No. 3 USC, Tampa and No. 6 TCU:
FSU took all three first sets against the Owls with scores at 21-18, 23-21, and 21-16. Myriah Massey and Bailey Higgins made quick work on court five, jumping ahead more than five points in each set to secure the first dual point. Courts two and four began playing after Iane Henke and Kenzie Hultquist won in set three to seal the match (23-21, 21-23, 15-11).
The Noles went on to face the Trojans, with Alexis Durish and Audrey Koenig scoring the first dual point at 21-14, 21-16 on court one. Courts three and five went into third sets, with Gella Andrew and Maddie Trusty adding FSU’s second dual point with a 15-10 victory on the third.
The Seminoles took on Tampa to open day two of the Invite and recorded their sixth complete dual sweep of the season. New duo Audrey Rothman and Saofe Duval took court three with set scores at 21-19 and 21-16, earning the second dual point for Florida State. Court four commenced after FSU reached three dual points, with Iane Henke and Kenzie Hultquist adding the fourth point at 21-13, 21-14.
FSU’s final match of the tournament came against conference opponent No. 6 TCU, who won in the most recent meeting between the schools 3-2. The dual came down to court two’s Gella Andrew and Maddie Trusty, who took set one 21-16. TCU forced a third set, but FSU managed to come out on top at 15-13. The Seminoles victory marks their seventh AVCA Top 25 victory this season.
Florida State continues their season by traveling to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, taking on four new opponents. The tournament begins with No. 17 GCU and No. 10 Cal, followed by final day matches against conference foes Boise State and No. 8 ASU.
Florida State women’s lacrosse (2-8, 0-6 ACC) fell to Virginia Tech 15–9 on Saturday:
Sophomore midfielder Meg Kenny set a career high and single-game program record with four assists and recorded five total points.
Freshman attacker Summer Harrell led Florida State with a career-best four goals, while freshman attacker Amelia Brite notched the first hat trick of her career.
FSU players have now recorded three four-goal performances and four three-goal performances this season, contributing to 20 total individual multi-goal games.
Kenny continues to lead Florida State with 21 points, including a team-high 15 goals and six assists. Harrell follows closely behind with 19 points on 14 goals and five assists.
Brite’s hat trick brings her to double-digit goals on the season with 10.
Virginia Tech jumped out to an early lead, scoring six goals in the opening quarter. Florida State responded in the second quarter with three goals, including an 8-meter strike by Alyssa Deacy, a cut into the crease from Brite, and a woman-up goal by Harrell. The Hokies scored four goals in the period to take a 10–3 lead into halftime.
The Seminoles continued to attack in the third quarter, scoring three more goals to cut the deficit. Harrell recorded two goals in the quarter, while Brite added another off an assist from Lydia Ward. Virginia Tech held a 13-6 lead after three.
Kenny began the fourth quarter scoring on a free position opportunity. After two Hokie goals, Brite completed her hat trick with an assist from Brynn Perkins. Harrell later added her fourth goal of the afternoon on another woman-up opportunity with under three minutes remaining. The Seminoles outscored the Hokies 3–2 in the final frame.
Florida State remains at home to host Gardner-Webb on Wednesday in its Military Appreciation game. First draw is scheduled for noon.
