The Jets have chosen six captains for the season.
The Jets have announced six players as season-long captains for the 2026 regular season. The leadership group selected by teammates is represented by QB Geno Smith and RG Joe Tippmann on offense; LB Demario Davis, S Minkah Fitzpatrick and DT Harrison Phillips on defense; and WR-KR Isaiah Williams on special teams.
It seems worth noting the rapid turnover on this team. Three of the six, Smith, Davis, and Fitzpatrick played for different teams in 2025.
In addition, Phillips and Williams were members of the Jets last year but both were acquired after the start of training camp. Of course, the Jets roster in general has been mostly overhauled over the last two years so that adds up.
Some attention has been paid to Garrett Wilson not being selected as a captain. Wilson isn’t just the top player on the team. He was voted a captain a year ago. I could offer some hot take about what this means, but I honestly don’t know. I will note, however, that Jamien Sherwood and Marcelino McCrary-Ball are also 2025 captains who remain on this team but not voted into the role this year.
