The Royals conceded another last-minute goal to drop points, this time against Huddersfield Town at the Accu Stadium on Good Friday.
Lewis Wing gave the Royals a first-half lead with a penalty just before the break. Huddersfield threatened and got the equaliser in the 96th minute through Lasse Sorensen.
The draw keeps us in the playoffs in sixth, with Stevenage a point behind with two games in hand. Here is what boss Leam Richardson had to say, he spoke to Royals TV.
Richardson on the draw
“Football gives you that at times.
If it had been the other way around, we would be elated despite being the same result. A point away from home at this level is huge, it’s just the manner of it with 30 seconds to go.
“On balance, in the first half with the conditions, they were in control more than we were. I thought the second half was excellent away from home, to control the game both with and without possession. Did we work the keeper enough in the second half? Probably not, to kill the game off. We were in total control in the second half.
“We are disappointed in the manner of it, but it is another point on the board and another game where these are, pound for pound, up there with Luton, Bolton and Stockport. We will do the right things and make sure we cool down for a really big game on Monday.
“I thought we quietened the crowd down really quickly in the second half – they got restless and there were a few boos ringing around which is football.
“In that moment, if they cut through us, you hold your hands up, but he miskicked it across the pitch and we were too high. It is one of those moments so we will dust ourselves down and move on.”
Richardson on looking ahead
“You want to be involved in these games, coming into single figures. We want games to look forward to being involved in and to be the best version of ourselves and keep improving. We want to respect ourselves more than anyone else so it will be a good game for us.
“Hopefully we give a similar performance than we have done at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and get the results that we have done.”
Richardson on 106 day
“You have to [take inspiration] with an accolade like that. With people coming back who achieved such a feat with our shirt on, it will be great and hopefully we can perform in front of them and emulate a miniscule of what they did. Hopefully it will be a good day, a good performance and a good result.”
