The Seattle Seahawks will have a pretty tight turnaround to get their 90-man roster down to 53 at the end of preseason.
On Thursday, the NFL notified teams that the 2026 season will see the cutdown deadline move up from the traditional Tuesday after preseason to Sunday, Aug. 30. Keep in mind that the final preseason game is Aug. 29 between the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts.
The Seahawks’ preseason finale is Aug. 28 versus the Kansas City Chiefs, so they will have less than 48 hours to make the hard decisions and form their initial 53-man roster.
Of course, the rarity for this year is the Seahawks hosting the New England Patriots on a Wednesday to begin the regular season. With the regular season starting a day earlier, the roster cut deadline is a tad bit sooner, just as it was in 2012 (the last time the NFL had a Wednesday Week 1 kickoff).
So from Aug. 28 through Aug. 31, there will be virtually no reprieve. There will be Seahawks football, roster cuts, then the practice squad forms all in the span of a few days.
