Kickboxing veteran Joe Schilling returned to MMA last weekend for PFL in Brussels.
“Stitch ’Em Up” threw in the towel just 36 seconds into the fight after absorbing a headbutt from opponent Donegi Abena. Schilling was upset with referee Mike Beltran, who took a point from Abena but attempted to restart the fight in the same position that he paused it — with “Silverback” on top.
Watch the bizarre sequence unfold here.
“One of the coolest moments of my life,” Schilling wrote on Instagram. “Everything
else is just noise. I know exactly who I am and so does my family. Most of you talking shit couldn’t hold my jock strap. My opponent also now exactly who he is and that’s on him. God Bless.”
Schilling is referring to the pre-fight walkout with his son by his side.
The 42 year-old Schilling dropped to 4-7 in MMA and has been stopped in six of those seven losses. As for Abena, 28, PFL Brussels marked his cage fighting debut after a decorated career on the kickboxing circuit. Probably not how “Silverback” wanted to notch his first win, but that’s the fight game.
