It has been a heck of a weekend for Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer.
The goalkeeper signed a contract extension on Friday, played 60 minutes in the team’s 5-1 victory over FC Köln before leaving with a calf issue, was reportedly named to the German national team after months of denying he would go to the tournament, and now might be on the shelf for a spell due to said calf issue.
Got all of that?
While Bild reported that the calf problem was nothing major late on Saturday, Bayern Munich issued a release
on FCBayern.com stating that the veteran would need to “take it easy for the time being”:
Manuel Neuer will have to take it easy for the time being due to muscle issues in his left calf. This was revealed by an examination conducted by FC Bayern’s medical staff. The captain was substituted in the 60th minute of Saturday’s Bundesliga home game against 1. FC Köln (5–1) after picking up an injury.
Neuer has had calf issues at different points this season, so this is a bit of a concern. With the DFB-Pokal finale next weekend, his status is surely in doubt.
