When Dominik Kohr scored to give Mainz 05 a surprising lead vs. Bayern Munich, it was the first major action of a strong first half showing that would ultimately see the home side hold a 3-0 advantage heading into the locker room at halftime.
Then it all fell part.
Bayern Munich embarked on an epic comeback, which saw goals from Nicolas Jackson, Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, and Harry Kane propel the Bavarians to a 4-3 victory. Afterward, Kohr was exasperated.
“It’s so frustrating. We played such a fantastic
first half and deservedly led 3-0. Bayern simply dismantled us completely in the second half with their quality. We spent a lot of energy in the first half, and some of our players ran out of steam in the second. You can’t beat Bayern by playing only 45 minutes,” Kohr said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
This loss will string Mainz 05 for quite a while. It was all right there for them, until it wasn’t.
