After Samoa Joe stabbed Hangman Page in the back, all signs pointed to a rematch for the AEW World Championship. It seemed like just a matter of going through the hurdles of booking that bout. Well, that assumption isn’t so clear anymore. Joe will have to go through Bobby Lashley to earn the title shot.
AEW announced a #1 contender four-way for the right to challenge Hangman at Full Gear. It will be Joe versus Lashley versus Ricochet versus Hook on the Fright Night Dynamite special for Wednesday,
October 29.
The participants make sense for storylines. Ricochet is on a quest for gold, and he also vowed to make sure that the Hurt Syndicate never taste championships again. Hook had beef with Joe until cooler heads prevailed. They were both babyfaces, so that feud didn’t make much sense at the time. Now that Joe is a villain again, AEW can rekindle this story with Hook as the hero.
In my opinion, the real draw is seeing Lashley and Joe rumble head to head. Ever since Lashley arrived in AEW, fans have been wondering when he’ll go after the world title. That would he a heck of a test for Hangman. Even though I’d say Joe is still the favorite based on storylines, this four-way will be exciting.
That’s not the only #1 contender bout on Fright Night Dynamite.
AEW also booked a tag team four-way bout to determine the challengers for Brodido at Full Gear. FTR, Young Bucks, Jurassic Express, and JetSpeed do the dance to earn a title shot.
Sticking with the topic of tag team championships, the women’s tournament is underway with Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata versus Julia Hart & Skye Blue as the first contest.
