The first SEC injury report featuring the Texas Longhorns was released this evening. The Longhorns are set to square off with the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday at high noon for their SEC opener and we now have glimpse of the injuries they are nursing heading into the Top 25 matchup.
As of Wednesday evening, the Longhorns are likely to be without four contributors, as Justus Terry, Xavier Filsaime, and Jordan
Coleman are all listed as OUT for Saturday’s matchup, while tight end Nick Townsend is listed as doubtful.
On a more positive note, Hollywood Smothers is listed as questionable but the signs point to him playing on Saturday and Texas star EDGE rusher Colin Simmons is listed as probable after being seen in a a boot last week against UTSA.
Texas will enter the matchup this weekend relatively healthy despite a couple of notable names making it to the injury report. Justus Terry being listed as out is probably the most disappointing name, as he is now slated to miss his third game in a row after generating a lot of buzz during preseason camp.
The Texas staff looks to be taking the cautious approach given that that its a long season and that there are still plenty of games left on the schedule. Better to get guys healthy now rather than force the issue and risk further injury this early in the season.
