Triple-A: Worcester Red Sox 4, Norfolk Tides 1
Chris Bassitt is back on the mound after back surgery, and edging closer to his return to the big league club. On Sunday, he put in a solid effort, throwing 67 pitches over 4 1/3 innings while allowing three runs, four hits and striking out four. It’s good to see!
Bassitt got the loss because his Norfolk teammates weren’t hitting much. There were just three hits today: a single apiece by Bryan Ramos, Ryan Noda, and Fernando Peguero. Enrique Bradfield Jr. and Creed Willems were in the lineup, but both
went hitless.
Double-A: Altoona Curve (PIT) 4, Chesapeake Baysox 3
The Curve walked it off with two RBI hits in the ninth off Alex Pham (BS, 1.78 ERA). Other than that, Chesapeake pitching was very good. Evan Yates threw an impressive 6 2/3 innings allowing just two runs on four hits. Keegan Gillies tossed 1 1/3 innings behind him, allowing just a run.
Not a massive offensive day for Chesapeake, which scored just three runs on four hits. One was a Douglas Hodo homer in the sixth, his team’s first runs. Catcher Dom Keegan also went long. And Thomas Sosa singled home a run to put his team up 3-2 in the top of the ninth. Shame it didn’t last. Top prospects Brandon Butterworth and Wehiwa Aloy both took 0-fers, I’m afraid.
High-A: Wilmington Blue Rocks (WAS) v. Frederick Keys 3 – PPD
This one was canceled due to what MiLB calls “wet grounds.” That’s a new one for me. Ticketholders can redeem their tickets at any remaining Keys games this season.
Low-A: Hickory Crawdads (TEX) 16, Delmarva Shorebirds 11
A donnybrook. Delmarva was all set to win this one, but a nine-run ninth inning will screw up a team’s best-laid plans. It was a hideous effort between Kailen Hanson and Brendan Parks (0.1 IP, 6 R, 0 ER, 1 HR), even if a throwing error prolonged the hit parade. Five walks in that inning alone, a homer, a triple. OK, you get the idea. Starter Bryan Orrantia had a short outing (3 IP, 4 R).
On the other hand, Shorebirds hitters racked up 12 hits and nine walks between them. Stiven Martinez hit a two-run single. Junior Aybar tripled and walked. Jaiden Lo Re went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
