Whether you think QB Shedeur Sanders is nothing more than an overhyped product of his Hall of Fame father, Deion Sanders, or think he is the savior for the Cleveland Browns, everyone would agree that A)
He’s struggled as a starter and B) his fans/followers are a bit over the top in their support. Sanders should have a role with the Browns in 2026, no matter what happens in the 2026 NFL draft.
A quarterback room of Sanders, Dante Moore, and Deshaun Watson would be a big upgrade, at least in terms of potential and draft pedigree, to the one in the 2025 QB competition.
For many longtime Cleveland fans, as well as those in the local media, people who are proponents of Sanders have been a bit overwhelming. In general, he does nothing wrong, and everything bad that happens is not his fault. On top of that, often that group will assume that if “X” happened or happened sooner, Sanders would for sure be doing better, playing great.
The most mature person about everything surrounding Sanders? The Browns quarterback himself, according to former Pittsburgh Steelers DB Ryan Clark:
Clark’s note that “Shedeur Sanders has been the biggest adult throughout” has been noticeable to everyone within the organization and around the league. Sanders’ maturity despite the throngs of supporters and detractors has proven to the NFL that he is capable of taking on any role he’s in with a team, including Cleveland. That maturity is why the Browns could keep him around even if they draft a quarterback at the top of the 2026 NFL draft.
A great example of what Clark is speaking of:
Sanders still has much to prove on the field, as legendary QB guru Greg Cosell shared, but his first season in the NFL has shown everyone his maturity, leadership, and priorities are in the right place and at a high level. Despite his fans and followers being a bit overwhelming, Sanders has proven to the league that he has the makeup needed for whatever role he is cast into.
