A couple of days ago, the Liberty were battling for the 4th seed and on the cusp of getting back to the team that New York loves. Since that victory over the Minnesota Lynx, the Liberty have now lost two in a row and have moved to the 6th seed in the WNBA standings. Not good.
It all started on the July 7 when the Liberty could not stop the Wings’ Jessica Shepard from getting to the rim. Her 22-point, 12-rebound, 11-assist day led Dallas to breeze past New York on ESPN. Then, yesterday, the Lynx retaliated
with full force as Olivia Miles and Kayla McBride combined for 48 points in a comeback victory.
Today, the Liberty will take on the Toronto Tempo with the chance of going 2-0 in the regular season series. Sitting at the 11th spot and currently in the midst of their own four-game losing streak, the Tempo pose a good way for the Liberty to work out their struggles and get back on the winning column. There’s no better way to end a long week than with a W.

Injuries
Satou Sabally will be a game time decision for today’s matchup.
For the Tempo, the beloved former Lib Nyara Sabally, joins her sister as a game time decision this afternoon. Temi Fagbenle will be out with a concussion.
The Game
While the Minnesota Lynx are arguably the best team in the league right now, the Liberty lost the game due to a lack of effort, respectfully. Allowing a team to have six offensive rebounds in a quarter, especially a huge one down the stretch is downright inexcusable.
Indeed, this will be a crucial game for the Liberty considering their up-and-down season. The Tempo are reeling although last night, they once again made WNBA history in Canada…
Player to Watch
The offensive effort, matched with defensive intensity, will be vital against Marina Mabrey, who has been lighting it up this season with an average of 21.2 points, third best in the WNBA. A couple of days ago, Mabrey scored 34 points with six three against the Wings. In late June, she dropped 53.
Mabrey’s shot making ability is video game like, which means the Liberty will have to contain her to beat the Tempo. On the offensive end, Sabrina Ionescu’s recent play signals that she may have found her rhythm again since coming back from injury, though it wasn’t the most efficient 25. If she can continue to show good signs, the floor will open for JJ and Breanna Stewart to go to work and find good looks themselves.
