Newcastle United’s search for a replacement for Anthony Gordon has reportedly led the club to an established Premier League winger instead of yet another youngster.
After selling Gordon to Barcelona earlier this summer, Newcastle has already added Bazoumana Toure to the squad. However, a fresh report suggests the Magpies are still looking for another attacking option with more top-flight experience, namely Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli.
According to Caught Offside, per FootballFancast, Newcastle is
interested in Martinelli and talks over a possible move are underway, although it remains “unclear” how advanced the discussions between clubs have become.
The report claims Arsenal would be willing to consider offers of around €58 million (£50 million) for the Brazil international, who is also attracting interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
Martinelli endured a disappointing 2025/26 campaign by his standards, scoring just once in the Premier League despite Arsenal winning the title. The 25-year-old has also impressed during Brazil’s World Cup campaign, even though the nation’s run was a bit underwhelming.
There’s no question that Martinelli’s Premier League experience could make him a more immediate replacement for Gordon than Toure, who joined from Hoffenheim as a long-term project, at this point.
At this stage, however, there is no indication Newcastle has reached an agreement with either Arsenal or the player, and it’s even questionable if there has been any approach at all or if this is just some banter about nothing.
