Surprise! We’re still ranked! After Georgia Tech’s loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Jackets have stayed in the College Football Playoff rankings at 23rd. Tech has been ranked every week after beating
Clemson in week 3.
In the rest of the ACC, Pittsburgh is ranked 22nd, SMU 21st, Virginia 18th, and Miami 12th. If the playoffs were to begin today and the first place team would be the assumed conference champ, Virginia would be the #11 seed in the playoff.
Georgia Tech’s playoff hopes are mostly gone, but if any of these scenarios are completed, Tech is in the ACC Championship and could make the playoff (again, basically impossible at this point, but there is a path):
PITT win + UVA loss + SMU loss OR
MIA win + SMU loss + Duke loss + UVA loss + NCSU win OR
MIA Win + SMU loss + DUKE loss + UVA loss + UNC win + BC win + Finish higher than MIA & SMU in SportSource Analytics ranking OR
MIA Win + SMU loss + DUKE loss + UVA win + NCSU win + BC win + Finish higher than MIA & SMU in SportSource Analytics ranking
By staying ranked, this means this week’s Clean, Old Fashioned Hate matchup will be the first ranked vs. ranked game between Georgia Tech and georgia since 2014. Georgia will come in ranked #4 this Friday.
