There’s a lot of conjecture and rumors about Giannis that we’ve chosen to largely not report on for several reasons, but chief among them is that—if our polls are to be believed—the majority of Bucks fans don’t want to trade him under any circumstances. Our Tuesday polls, as well as ones we’ve conducted on social media, put that number around 60%, while only about a third of respondents want it to happen. But ultimately, it doesn’t matter what we want: the cards are in Giannis’ hands, and to a lesser
extent, the Bucks’.
50 hours remain until the 2026 NBA Trade Deadline. Some think Milwaukee will pivot towards selling after previous indications they’d buy, but either way, that’s probably just speculation. If it were me running the show, I’d not make any sort of decision on Giannis until summer, unless he flatly asks me for a trade. Instead, I’d look to add salary by trading away cheaper Bucks like Gary Trent Jr. and Gary Harris, hoping to add another asset in exchange for taking on another team’s less favorable contract. I’d also try to bring back someone making more than Bobby Portis by trading him, hopefully on a contract that expires in summer 2027. This would increase the amount of salary one could bring back by trading out that player plus Kyle Kuzma this coming offseason.
In this week’s Tuesday Tracker, we’ll rehash the usual questions about Giannis’ future in light of more reporting from the usual rumor mongers, and see if you believe them. We also have a tanking question vis-a-vis Doc Rivers’ immediate future with the team. Let’s see how these questions age in the coming days.
As always, this poll will be open until midnight Central on Friday, and we’ll post the results later that day. Thanks for voting!
