Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis needed offseason shoulder surgery which was supposed to sideline him between four to six months. The winger has been skating with the team since training camp, first wearing a yellow no-contact jersey and then wearing his normal practice sweater. Yesterday he skated in a line and participated like normal. The team officially activated him from injured reserve. I would look for him to play tonight.
Two of the hottest teams in the league match up tonight as the Hurricanes
bring their 8-2-1 record to Rogers Place to take on the Edmonton Oilers, (7-1-1).
The Hurricanes had practice yesterday and skated the following lines as reported by Walt Ruff.
Carrier – Aho – Svechnikov
Ehlers – Stankoven – Blake
Martinook – Kotkaniemi – Jarvis
Robinson – Unger Sorum – Deslauriers
Slavin – Chatfield
Miller – Walker
Gostisbehere – Välimäki
Reilly
Bussi | Kochetkov
Bradly Nadeau was reassigned to Chicago and Skyler Brind’Amour was recalled. Look for the possibility that Brind’Amour slides in for Unger Sorum at fourth line center.
Brandon Bussi is next in line to be in net. We will see if coach Brind’Amour sticks with the rotation.
The powerplay groups were as follows:
It is good to see Valimaki move into the second unit but the team sure is being conservative using Miller as well. Two defensemen on a powerplay unit is kind of like using two defensemen to start out a 3-on-3 scenario.
Oh wait!
It seems as though there are no complaints so far about new head coach Mike Babcock on the other side. Connor McDavid has been playing like gangbusters for the home team with 26 points in the nine games he has played.
Mr. McDavid, meet Jaccob Slavin. You two have met before.
- Vasily Podkolzin – Connor McDavid – Leon Draisaitl
- Alex Formenton – Owen Michaels – Mathieu Joseph
- Zach Hyman – Colton Dach – Kasperi Kapanen
- Trent Frederic – Filip Hållander – Isaac Howard [1]
Defensemen
- Mattias Ekholm – Evan Bouchard
- Ryan Shea – Connor Murphy
- Jake Walman – Ty Emberson [1]
Look for Kapanen and Formenton to possibly switch spots above.
Carolina needs to keep an eye on Evan Bouchard, who has 18 points which leads all NHL defensemen. Of course Leon Draisaitl is always dangerous and he has 16 points.
This should be a good one tonight. Game time is 9 PM Eastern. Watch on your normal vehicles, Prime Video, Spectrum, and FUBO.
The Hurricanes are slight betting favorites, (-118 to -102).
