Sweden boss Graham Potter has explained his decision to leave Roony Bardghj out of his squad for World Cup 2026.
The Barcelona star (and Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson) will miss this summer’s tournament and Potter says it was a tough call to make.
“It has been an incredibly tough decision to make. It is not something I have taken lightly, picking a squad for the World Cup. As a person and as a father, I know how tough it is to leave players out,” he told reporters.
“My decisions are based on a few things.
I don’t have all the answers. There are always different ways of looking at things. From a competitive perspective, there are others who are ahead, right now.
“It’s also about us being 26 players who are going on a trip, about how to manage time away from each other, how we act and different profiles based on age and experience. I love both of those guys. They have super exciting careers ahead of them. I may be wrong, but I have to make a decision.”
The decision comes at a time when there’s been speculation over Roony’s future. He’s said he’s not happy with his game time at Barcelona this season and there has been talk of a summer move.
