Barcelona’s defence is in the spotlight once again following defeats to PSG in the Champions League and Real Madrid in La Liga.
Former Barcelona player Bernd Schuster says he’d love to see the Catalans be crowned champions of Europe but feels they have to tighten up even if they do have a fearsome attack.
“I also see Barça as capable of winning the Champions League this season. That’s their big goal, and I would be delighted for the entire club and Flick, because they’ve built something truly special
over the past few years,”he told Bild.
“My dream final would be a clash between Barça and Bayern Munich, whom I also consider among the top favorites, along with Paris Saint-Germain.
“To prevail, however, Barça still needs to work on one weakness: their defense. Because of their highly offensive style of play, they regularly concede two or more goals. Despite this, they still win most of their league and European matches because Yamal and his teammates often score four or five goals.
“This regularly leads to scorelines that are usually only seen in ice hockey. Their attack is a machine, but against the very biggest opponents like Bayern or Paris, you can’t always score that many goals.”
Barcelona are back in action in the Champions League next week when they host Aston Villa at Camp Nou.
