Tennessee might be in the thick of transfer portal battles all over the board, but they’re still keeping eyes on the prep ranks as well. The Volunteers have set up an official visit with 4-star wing Chris Washington Jr., who recently decommitted from Alabama.
Tennessee has worked to get him on campus for an official, but the timing didn’t work until now. Mike Wilson had the news on Monday morning.
Washington, a 6-8 forward from the mid-state, is a top 50 overall prospect in this class. Originally out of Murfreesboro, Washington is the top player in the state of Tennessee. Washington would become Tennessee’s top-ranked prospect in the class of 2026, which currently features 4-star wings Ralph Scott, Manny Green and 3-star point guard Marquis Clark.
Tennessee’s class ranks 23rd nationally, according to 247Sports. The Volunteers are currently attacking the transfer portal, filling out a roster that was gutted last week by portal entries. Tennessee has added guards Tyler Lundblade, guard Dai Dai Ames and forward Miles Rubin so far.
Washington profiles as an outstanding athlete, obviously one with great size and length. Oregon, USC and SMU are also rumored to be in the equation here.
Clearly, plenty of needs are left on the board — is Washington going to become a part of those plans? We’ll find out perhaps as early as this week.
