It’s difficult to imagine fan confidence in the Indianapolis Colts being much lower than it was following Sunday’s embarrassing 26-20 loss to the previously winless Tennessee Titans. Indianapolis entered the game as a heavy favourite, held a 13-0 halftime lead and somehow managed to collapse against a team that had averaged fewer than 12 points per game entering the afternoon. The loss dropped the Colts to 2-4, with fans at Lucas Oil Stadium loudly expressing their frustration toward an organization
that has seemingly been stuck in the same cycle of mediocrity for years. For many, losing to one of the NFL’s worst teams was the final straw after another disappointing start to the season.
That frustration ultimately led to significant changes within the organization, as owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon announced the firing of general manager Chris Ballard less than 24 hours after the defeat. Ballard had been in charge since 2017, overseeing a franchise that reached the playoffs just twice during his tenure and had not made the postseason since 2020. While his departure does little to address the team’s immediate problems on the field, it represents a significant change in direction for an organization that had remained committed to the same leadership for nearly a decade. For fans who had been demanding accountability, the decision could provide a much-needed boost in confidence about the franchise’s long-term future.
The question now is whether that renewed optimism will extend to the remainder of the 2026 season. At 2-4, the Colts have already put themselves in a difficult position, but with 11 games remaining, there is still an opportunity to turn things around and remain competitive in the AFC playoff race. Shane Steichen and his coaching staff are under considerable pressure to produce results, and a string of victories over the coming weeks could quickly change the mood surrounding the team. Whether fans view Ballard’s dismissal as the beginning of a brighter future or simply another chapter in a frustrating stretch of Colts football remains to be seen. That brings us to this week’s question: How confident are you in the direction of the Indianapolis Colts?
