With the season he’s been having so far with RB Leipzig, it’s no surprise that Yan Diomande is drawing interest from clubs all across Europe’s top five leagues, Bayern Munich included. The 19-year-old
has just recently returned from international duty with the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations in Morocco, but thoroughly impressed for Die Roten Bullen with the seven goals and four assists he’s tallied so far from a total of eighteen appearances across all competitions.
He’s been a standout in a Leipzig team that has, for the most part, been up and down with their form so far this season under Ole Werner and have lost three of their last four matches in the Bundesliga. With that said, Leipzig are very well aware of the amount of interest their young talent has been garnering from elsewhere and they know the sharks of European football are going to start circling as the summer transfer window gets closer.
Per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Leipzig would want somewhere in the region of €100 million from a prospective buying club to agree to sell their star winger and they are currently remaining relaxed over the whole situation. There’s still half of a season left to play, so his value could, in theory, wind up dropping, but as things stand right now, interested clubs are expecting to come in with offers in the €60 to €70 million range.
As things stand, Diomande’s contract with Leipzig runs through June 2030 and it does not contain a release clause, so Leipzig hold a lot of power in terms of leverage, knowing that they’ll be able to use that at the negotiating table to make as much money as possible. Per Plettenberg, the club are fully intent on making Diomande the club’s most expensive sale, eclipsing the August 2023 sale of Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol to Manchester City for a fee of €90 million.
With such a steep price tag, matched with the depth that Bayern already has in attack, it seems unlikely that they would be the club to shell out almost €100 million for him, but stranger things have certainly happened. Serge Gnabry is on the verge of a contract extension with the German Rekordmeister and they already have Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, and Lennart Karl in the ranks in like-for-like positions as Diomande.
